>The main objective of this work is to characterize the socio-economic profile of rubber tappers of the Tejo River Basin, AC, allowing an evaluation of its pr oduction means and of the current situation of this population. Also to obtain i nformation for environmental monitoring in agricultural and cattle raising areas of the tropical rainforest.
In the initial planning phase of this research, this objective was subdivided
in three methodologic different groups:
one related mainly to spatial data and
its cartography; the second related to data collection, treatment and numerical
data expression and finally an attempt to integrate both parameters to specializ
e some of the variables sampled in the field.
For each group, secondary goals were identified and shown below:
- To cartography the rubber tapper's "colocações" and the hydro graphic network of the Tejo River Basin in the 1/100.000 scale, identifying its respective nomenclatures;
- To delimit and map homogeneous unities of vegetation of the studied areas in the scale 1/100.000;
- to define a sampling plan to collect, in a field mission, data related to ag roecology and socio-economy at the Tejo River Basin;
- to make statistical treatments to characterize the local inhabitant, the ava ilable socio-economic and natural resources, as well as the production forms tha t exist in the study area.
